Artificial Teeth and Denture Base are composed of two parts, which rely on the adsorption force and atmospheric pressure generated by the close fit between the denture base and the mucosal tissues of the edentulous jaw and the edge closure to make the denture adsorbed on the alveolar ridge of the upper and lower jaws to restore the patient's missing tissues and facial appearance, and to restore the functions of mastication and articulation, and the mucosal and bony tissues under the coverage of the denture base bear the occlusal pressure of the denture. The mucous membrane and bone tissue under the denture base bear the occlusal pressure.
Structure of Complete Denture:
Complete denture consists of two parts: abutment and artificial teeth, which are used to restore the appearance of natural teeth, bite and assist pronunciation. The role of the abutment is to connect the artificial teeth, restore the missing hard and soft tissues, and make the denture fixed on the upper and lower edentulous jaws respectively. The artificial teeth and part of the abutments occupy the position of the original natural teeth and the alveolar process, and the abutments are extended to the labial and buccal sides to form a wing-like shape, which is located in the gap between the alveolar ridge and the labial and buccal soft tissues in the vestibule of the oral cavity and is known as Labial/Buccal Flange. The lingual abutment of the mandibular prosthesis is located between the lingual side of the alveolar ridge and the lingual side of the tongue and is known as Lingual Flange. The palatal abutment of the maxillary complete denture covers the whole of upper and upper palate to the junction of the hard and soft palates. The palatal base of the maxillary complete denture covers the entire upper palate up to the junction of the hard and soft palate
